Ceremony music- behind the scenes ^^

i'm awaiting a few videos from my friends cameras to get the behind the scenes on the dances ^^

but for now! behind the scenes on the ceremony music ^^ Alot of people have been asking me how I was actually able to get the love story arrangement by jon schmit before he actually released it as a mp3.

For those of you who have NOOO idea what I'm talking about, this is the song i used:

I simply fell completely in LOVE with this arrangement.... it was so beautiful! I kept waiting and waiting for the mp3, religious checking his site to see if he had it available yet. BUT he was never able to release it in time! (had difficulties getting rights from coldplay)

So being insanely desperate, I ripped the music off of the youtube video. But as you may notice from the video.. in the beginning a 0:13 there some laughing sounds.. and then later at 0:16 a really loud obvious yawning sound.

So how did I do it? How did I take that all out? and take out all of viva la vida?

Garageband on jeanna's mac book pro and numerous hours of listening to the song over and over and over and figuring out how to use garage band haha =)

Heres exactly what I did:

1. Get rid of the laughing/yawning: I layered the song over and over each other to mask the yawning sounds. The begining repeats a few times, it was tricky, but doable ^^

2. Split the song in to two parts: 1st part for bridesmaids/flowergirl/ring bearer, 2nd part for me and my daddy ^^ My favorite part of the song started at 2:44, its the part of the song when shes feeling like shes losing faith and hope.. and then he pops out no where tells her he loves her and that hes worked things out with the parents, pops the question and tells her to go get a white dress. *dreamy sigh*

So, part 1 is from 0:00 to 2:41 that way, if someone walked to fast or too slowly, there was a pause in the music ^^

and part 2 (my favorite part of the song!) is from 2:41 to 3:44 (right before the song cuts to vida la vida) and I cut it to the very end at 5:49 where it ends with love story again ^^

3. Part 3 somehow cut viva la vida out without make the song sound totally chopped off: This is the part that took me the longest.. and I am the most proud of! ^^ it was super complicated to get the music to sound right.. but after hours of playing with it... and trying to layer the song differently, I somehow magically did it! hahah I ended up backing up a bit and layering the transition from viva la vida back in to love story, and meshed that up with the downard scale, and somehow it just worked! I have no idea how. ^^

In the end I'm sad to say that Jon Schimdt was unable to get clearance to release the song on mp3 from coldplay.. but at least he got the okay from taylor swift! so this is newest remix of the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZIIJ0_R_Ok All love story AND downloadable!! hahah to bad it didn't come out in time for the wedding ^^ but i still love it!

Bora Bora- Michelles Waterproof Camera!

Bora Bora was sooo beautiful!

This is me and Hubby on the little porch of the over water bungalow!! It was a bit rainy when we first got there but you can't really tell

This is our little coffee table! you could open it up and feed the fish! hahaha =D

The 2nd day there we went on a snorkeling excursion to the most beautiful snorkeling sights in bora bora.. and wow, it was mind blowingly beautiful. The corals were so perfect.. the colors and structures are so amazing!! better than anything at any fish store or aquarium

There were so many fish! this area was called "the aquarium" hahaMe and hubby with our fishy friends!

On a small super pretty small "motu" (island) we walked across it in like 5 minutes! but there were a billion mosquitoess! haha

The next day we went on a sharks and ray's excursion! We met a really nice lady from Germany who took this picture for us ^^

The sting rays were humungous!!! there were soo many of them! they swam right up and all around your body it was crazy!Gary pet one =)

We also swam with Black Tip Coral Reef sharks! they were hugee!!

They swam up super close! ahh

The last day, I took some night shots as well with my little canon elph.. iso 1600, and +2 exposure giving me aproximately a 1 second long exposure.. haha ^^ but they didn't come out as nice as gary's =) I'll hopefully post all the pictures up soon ^__^

Bora Bora

Our last couple of days in Tahiti were spent in Bora Bora. Sadly my camera isn't very waterproof so I couldn't use it very much but my wifey has loads of pictures because of her waterproof casing. I'll let her do most of the uploads of our underwater adventures.

Heres what I have

We lived in an overwater bungalow which had little coffee tables that opened up so that you could feed fish :) They also had these porches were you can jump into the ocean anytime you wanted to.

One night Michelle and I decided to do some night photography and surprisingly without a tripod or anything we got couple shots!

These stairs led to a coral nursery that the hotel supported. There motto was to create a hotel that blended into the natural environment and help sustain and recreate the environment they were part off. So they had tons of coral nurseries around which made for really cool snorkeling.

On our way to Tahiti, Air Tahiti Nui (the plane) gives each person a flower. Michelle and I decided to experiment with our rings and macro settings. And I leave you with that :)

After exploring Moorea on our own we took a 4x4 Safari tour with a tour company. One of the most exciting things we did at Moorea. Also one of my favorite photo sessions on our whole trip. We took a hike up the dead volcano which gave us an awesome view of the two bays.

Then we went down to a ceremonial site which had lots of chickens!

After visiting the ceremony site, we headed over to a pineapple, flower, and papaya plantation. However along the way we got a special guest that trailed us and ate pineapples!

Before reaching the pineapple/papaya plantation we stopped by a flower garden.

A real live orchid!! It was one of best surprises Michelle and I had. We both love orchids so seeing one in the wild was a treat.

So here's the pineapple papaya pictures. We both snickered when we heard that pineapple and papaya's grew together on the same island. (Michelle is the pineapple and I'm the papaya). Anyways we found that pineapples grew on bushes and papayas grew wayyy up in trees. It was pretty funny because people usually think pineapples grow on trees.

Our first stop of our trip was in Pappette, Tahiti. The place was beautiful but before we go on, heres my new model for life! My wifey Momo :)

We stayed only one night in Papette so didn't get much a chance to explore the city. Next day we flew to Moorea (a neighboring island) and we got to do some amazing things there.

Goat Fish!!! (There were soo many of them)

Hibiscus flowers, if you wear it on your left it means your married and if you wear it on your right it means your single and if you were on top of your head it means... ;P

One of the excursions we did was go biking around the island. I was soo suprised by my wife, man can she bike! we went about 1/3 of the island and then biked that same distance back to the hotel and then biked out again for lunch. We later found out that Tahitians burn wood/garbage. Yuk!
Makes a cool pictures but its actually yucky wood and garbage smoke. blah..

Below are some of my wifey's shots. She decided to learn how to use my camera and so i'll show case some of her work here too! There quite good :)

Honeymoonnin- Tahiti and Moorea

It was so amazingly B-E-A-Utiful.

Papette, Tahiti- 1 night

8 hour flight on Air Tahiti Nui, I would have to say flying in to Tahiti was like flying in to a dream. Just the view from the airplane looking out the windown in to crystal blue green waters seemed so surreal. There was only one night in here, so we didn't get a chance to explore too much. We stayed at the Intercontinental Tahiti Hotel ^^ there was plenty for us to do at the hotel which was super awesome. And the food was delicious! We had some kind of polynesian version of curry for dinner the first night. (we discovered how outrageously priced all the food was in tahiti.. ahh! $30-$50 per person)

Moorea-3 nights
The next morning we flew over to the beautiful Moorea. It was only a 10 minute plane flight away! haha we literally flew up then back down. Moorea beauty lies in its lush green floral mountainous island rather than its lagoons (not to say in anyway that their lagoons are super beautiful either. The water is still crystal clear, and filled with pretty corals and fishies!!) The first day we spent mainly exploring the hotel. Again it had a billion amenities! haha They had a dolphin center, and a sea turtle rescue center. the next day we decided to rent some bikes and bike around the island! hahaha oh man i never knew i had it in me to bike so much! We both felt like we were in a Miyazaki film like totoro and biking through a lush jungle forest area. haha =) it was awesome. After biking we did snorkled a bit around the over water bungalows and saw all types of interesting stuff!! like sea leeches (they look like super duper duper long sea cucumbers) and sea flutes and all types of triggers !! ^_^

The next day we went on a 4x4 jungle excursion! It was awesome.. we got to explore the inside volcano jungle-ly area of Moorea, go to a pinapple and papaya plantation! it was soo beautiful. We learned about the local temples.. and that pinapple "trees" are really pinapple "bushes" and never grow taller than 3 feet haha =) We also learned that Tahitians specialized in Vanilla and Pineapples, so its super duper yummy! We then spent the rest of the day kayaking and snorkling ^____^ We realized if we stick our hands outward in a "flinging bread" kind of action the fish get tricked in to thinking we are feeding them! and they totally swarm around us! it was amazing! haha ^^

We're married!!

yay!! thanks so much everyone for coming.. we had SOOO much fun! =) =)

the week before the wedding was super crazy! i really want to thank the amazing bridal party team for just all the fun and hard work everyone put in! We love you guys so much.

The wednesday before the wedding Daniel Lui forced us on a date so we could have some time to ourselves away from all the stress ^^ It was so awesome and nice.. and much needed! when we came home.. it was a house full of people we loved working and making our programs! haha Daniel even learned to use the sewing machine! Amazing! I wish i could have had a picture of that moment. Everyone smiling. laughing telling us we are back to early. We felt so loved!!

anyways =) Gary and I are off to Tahiti/moorea/bora bora tomorrow for our honey moon!! we will be uploading the wedding video soon so you guys can see! (we had some technical difficulties at pearl) and the rest of the behind the scene footage of us practicing the dances heheh ^__^

Escort card mania!

so yay i'm almost done with all the escort cards wooot! pretty cute huh? =) It was more work than i had intended.. since i didn't realize alot of the mini fruits are not actually able to stand on their own! haha so i had to glue gun them to a little cute peice of flower shaped foam (what an awesome find)

In addition.. many of these little fruits were tougher than i expected! haha >_< so i couldnt just punch the brad straight into it.. I had to poke a hole in the fruit first then pin in the leaf tag ^^

For those of you who keep up with our blog you'll have an advantage to finding your place card!! heheh as i will not reveal the ultra-not-so-secret-way they are being sorted! =)

They will be first sorted by fruits horisontally (for asthetic purposes hehe, they look a bit funky all mixed ^^) then sorted by alphabetical order vertically A to Z, A's being near the top edge of the tables =) =) Hopefully it shouldn't be too hard ^^ I hope you guys enjoy these!

I'm totally sick with the flu from the weekend.. but it was simply amazing. My brain is a bit groggy... so i will decorate this post mostly with pictures (and videos). But i really wanted to express just how loved and special i felt.. and how much I really appreciated everyone coming! Thank you Jeanna for organizing driving all the girls from SD, Joy for arranging the tickets and hotel, Timin for flying in last minute all the way from Norcal, Brandy for driving my sister over, and just everyone who made that extra effort to make it =) My bridesmaids are amazing for putting this together. I felt so insanely loved and special. Disneyland was way to much fun, i didn't want it to end.

The Five love Languages

Just finished reading the book: The Five Love Languages by Gary Chapman. Has to be one of the most eye opening book on relationships that I've read. The version that I read was on married couples but I think it applies to even everyday relationships. I highly recommend this book for those of you in relationships.

I learned so much from it and even reflecting on my relationship with michelle, I can see how i wasn't learning to speak her love language. I can see how our arguments become never ending circles that just keep going on and on. The resurfacing of past arguments, the frustrations that come with it, and also the inability to do anything about it. A lot of times, I tell myself that I'm loving michelle in what i'm doing for her (my love language is acts of service), but to her it might not seem like love. To her its probably spending quality time with each other or one of the other ones (she didn't read the book yet, but she will ;) ) The most important thing I learned is to really discover one another's love language and to develop it and use so that we can speak to each other. I guess this is another way for communicating :)

Anyways pick up a copy of the book and read it, its an easy read and it even made me think about my relationships with my family. have fun with it.

cupcake tower!

Cupcake tower construction begins!

step 1. Obtain thick cardboard boxes! (if you work at a lab this should be easy hehe)

step 2: use a protractor to draw circles (or a really long a holey ruler from moji) and cut it out with an exacto knife (or in jamie's case a pocket knife)

step 3: Cut lots of different sizes! and then.. make inbetween slot thingies to hold it all up =)

step 4: Cover the cardboard with pretty material, we pinned it all on first with push pins and then glue-gunned the edges on

Step 5: cover the edges with some pretty lace

Step 6: take a break, rest and go to sleep! haha =)

were totally not done yet.. but! it was quite fun and entertaining! Thank you so much to Joann Ihui Hunter and Jamie for helping me with all the cutting and gluing and constructing till the wee hours of the night!! ^__^ haha. its coming out alot cuter than i expected ^________^

I also tried to make a pomander with a 6" foam ball..... but..! it took up ALL my flowers! haha so i think im going to buy some smaller 3" foam balls ^_^ so i can spread out the flowers a bit more

bridesmaid dresses!

GUESS WHAT?! The bridesmaid dresses arrived yay!! thank you jeanna for picking them up from LA. they're soo prettyyy! We ended up going with the Jasmine B2 bridesmaid line =) All of my bridesmaids are soo beautiful but very different in shape and heights, so i really wanted them to be able to pick a dress they liked, and had re-wearability points =) It was so amazing they each picked such a beautiful dress but every dress ended up being so different! I can't wait to see you guys try them on =)

oh and Happy Mother's day to all the mommies out there! ^__^ heres a 15 "carrot" diamond ring we made my mommy. hahaha ^__^

this story actually starts couple weeks before. Several weeks ago, started looking for our wedding bands and we scouted out some places at UTC. Michelle found one she really liked at Charles Koll and we put that one on our high priority list. Checked out couple more places (went back to blumenthals) and didn't find too much that stood out. This past weekend, we went back to Charles Koll and made our purchase for the wedding bands. Michelle got a nice brushed 18K white gold band and I ended up with a tungsten carbide band. this is when I realized how wishy washy i was (since I had no idea what i liked). I was stuck between tungsten carbide and titanium but ended up with the tungsten carbide because its virtually unscratchable :) Its also lot heavier than titanium but oh well. The weight will remind me of who i'm attached too :)

So yup, we made our purchase and we'll be picking them up sometime next week! Both our rings are from Charles Koll (UTC). Nice people and quite knowledgeable.

Last week me and gary flew over to ohio to look at housing! (litterally 3 days nonstop)

We got a pretty sweet deal on the flight/hotel/car rental off priceline ^^ and off we went for 4 days!

It was 55 degree's when we arrived there, and everyone kept commenting what a beautiful weather they were having! hahah O_O I was totally freezing! But thankfully it warmed up (within one day) to 90 degrees! crazy huh?

What we were looking in for a house
1. Convienience to Case Western (pref walking/biking distance)
2. Heat/air conditioning included?
3. Dogs allowed (can't wait to get a puppy!! EEEEEEEEE ^___^ )
4. Laundry? gym
5. Covered parking space provided

Some highlights of the trip!

Thursday:
we looked at housing and I instantly fell in love with the first place we looked at: kensington gardens. It was beautiful and clean and had a gym! and the one bedroom that was avaliable allows you to have share relatively large private grassy courtyard with 2 other people!! (perfect for puppy!!) hehe The other places we looked at next.. were a bit gettoer, and we learned about radiators, and shoveling snow in the winter. haha =)

For dinner we ate at Lolitas! A resturant owned by iron chef michael Symon! we yelped it, and it got pretty good reviews! So we ordered an appetizer meatballs ($7) and their "famous" mac and cheese.($15) BUUTT!! oh my goodness the meatballs get here... and i was imagineing maybe 2 or 3 large 4 inch in diameter meatballs, you know like you normally get on a meat ball patter right? BUt no! the meatballs come.. and they are on this tiny dish.. there are four 1 inch in diameter TINY meatballs!! hahahah me and gary nearly laughed our heads off. Granted they were lamb meatballs and very very delicious... but hhaha stil =)

Friday:
Visited 5 more places, and we learned about radiators.. and how its really important to find a place that has covered parking (so you don't have to shovel out your car) and includes heat and air conditioning, or else your electricity cost will skyrocket

Saturday:
Found a place were in LOVE with 5 min walking distance from case. Parklanevilla.com, the building is SOOOO NICE! and they allow pets! But they have such an intense waiting list T__T i really hope that we can get it!

Bridal Shower

The Bridal Shower was amazing!! I felt so incredibly love and blessed. My bridesmaids are the most amazing girls in the world. Everything fell together so beautifully. Jeanna was the ring leader, coordinated everything with emails, Joann put together all the amazing food, Joy put together all the favors and balloons, my little sister came up with all sorts of neat ideas for favors/games, Tiffy came up with all the games, Ihui managed all the music. AMAZING! ^^

I was so touched just by everyone who ended up making it! My mom, sister, steph, steph and brandy drove from OC. My Future mommy, lydia joanne and sabrina (future cousins and sisters) drove 8 hours from norcal! It really meant so much to me that everyone came ^^

We had a bit of time to chill and hang out before we officially started and ate yummy food! THen we started out with a game, where Tiffany asked Gary a series of question to see how well i would match up if i answered the same exact questions such as "what are your favorite physical features of gary" or if "michelle had one grapefruit and gary had one grapefruit how many grapefruits would michelle have in the end" hahahahah

FREAKISHLY we matched answers almost 100% WORD FOR WORD lol. ie. My favorite physical features of gary are his wavy hair, and that when he smiles he has cute little happy crinkles in his eyes. and.. i would end up with zero grapefruit because i don't like grapefruit and would give it to gary to eat. hehehe >_< (gary said "michelle would probably not have any.. because she would give it to me to eat") We then played a "price is right" game where I was "vanna white" and everyone had to guess the price of a household item, and if they got it right, they could keep the item (ie a orange peeler, or a kitchen timer) AND they would have to share a favorite memory with me =) =) And the most overwhelmingly sweet part of the day was.. gifts! wow. really. I've never received so many generous gifts in my entire life. I didn't even know how to respond. I now have.. he.he.he.... 2 weeks supply of lingerie. my goodness. haha =) But by far.. my most favorite gift was the scrapbook. Everyone attending made a page for me, it was so sweet and so cute. It was so awesome to see everyone's personalities and creativity in each page. It almost put me to tears. Bridesmaidsy workout

haha so in order to get in tip-top shape for the wedding, me and ihui have been exercising every morning and night, doing weights and........ DDR!!

its actually surprisingly intense! last night Jeanna got to join us too (after bible study) haha but I think we worked out to late.. and we got so energized we couldn't sleep till like 3 in the morning!

Gary has also been working out! and running 3 miles every monday with mike and (sometimes) steve and jamie.

so this past weekend, we went up to norcal and had our third session in marriage counseling with pastor victor and his wife, jenny. It went really well. Michelle and I learned more about ourselves and each other. We talked about our marriage expectations and our personalities. Pastor victor shared with us his experiences and we talked about our differences and how they can complement each other. Our marriage expectations seem pretty down to earth (according to victor) and it was a good sign! There was one question that was interesting. It was Do you think you still have the same romantic expectations after couple years? The answer is no simply because feelings change and we change as people but love doesn't change. (I answered yes! michelle andwered correctly with a no) I later recalled with michelle that when we first started dating we would after our honeymoon we would have another one for 99 more years! haha we both got a good laught out of it.

Anyways marriage counseling is pretty fun and actually helps get out feelings and thoughts in a safe way. I'm really enjoying these counseling sessions and learning a lot about both of us.

Awhile ago, my friend asked me to give a lowdown on michelle's ring so i emailed him this long email from stones to metals. So i'm going to post it here and share it with you all to add on to michelle's post. Hope it helps future grooms!

I got my ring at a store named Blumenthal jewelers located in the village at La Mesa. You can google them. Michelle's ring is made of platinum. i choose platinum over white gold for the metal. Platinum had dropped in price when i bought the ring and its softer so more malleable. For example when you dent it, platinum doesn't chip, the metal just gets moved around whereas white gold will chip and you actually lose metal when you dent it. The downside of platinum is because its softer it does change shape easier verses white gold which is harder so doesn't dent as easily but for white gold you do have to get it replated because its a mixture of metals verses a pure metal. I spent most of the money on the setting as opposed to the rock.

For the rock, i choose to stay away from diamonds because of the moral issues surrounding diamonds. Good article i found is http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/198202/diamond. It was written in the 1980's and people have been much more alert about the issues surrounding diamonds but the practice is still there. There are conflict-free diamonds but who really knows? They say they are certified and I'm sure there are many that are legit but it really cost a fortune to buy one of those. For those moral reasons plus the unreasonable cost of buying a diamond, I choose to stay away from the diamond. I also asked myself these questions

Why I wanted to buy a diamond?
Does Michelle want a diamond?
Is it social pressure to buy diamond?

I also asked one of my friends about this whole diamond thing and i'll post his reply here

even though you can get conflict-free stones, the mechanisms to verify it can be easily forged. consider the mechanism is "regulated" by the diamond industry, its not in their interest to be vigorous in this. though there are definitely conflict-free stones, there's no guarantee you can get one. ah, you could go canadian diamonds, which seem to be more legit, but no guarantees either
i made the argument of my decision NOT getting a diamond ring having zero effect on the industry. i.e. boycotting diamonds has zero effect on eliminating the slave trade. the rationale i finally landed on is that i choose not to not because it will have an adversed effect on the industry, but to deliberately choose not to support it. what we buy and what we purchase reflects what we value, unfortunately there is no such thing as a neutral purchase.
more than any other wedding tradition, getting a diamond ring was a "need" that was marketed into existence by debeers diamond company. and with that, the whole perception that a man's value was tied to the size of the diamond he could get and a woman's value of how big of a diamond ring her man got her. as people who follow jesus, we have to ask hard questions about WHY we're getting diamond rings, just as we need to ask why we end up spending our money on anything else. is getting this honoring to jesus? this is one of the harder questions i had to grapple with. why was it important for me to get a diamond ring?
tied to the previous one, i realized that there's a lot of public pressure to get a diamond ring. its interesting, with any other product -- if you knew that it came from child labor and oppressive conditions, you wouldn't think twice about not buying it. but with diamonds, we hem and haw because of perceived public expectations. reveals a lot about our hearts :). anyway, this is was the biggest thing that pushed me over. the biggest reason why i wasn't getting it was fear of what others would think. that's something i had to really wrestle with the Lord about.

Anyways I choose to go with Moissanite (a synthetic stone). Michelle really wanted a rock that was white and so the other alternatives other than diamond were synthetic stones or white sapphire. White sapphire doesn't have that same fire and cubic zironia is just cheap glass. Moissanites have a gorgerous fire and it sparkles like crazy. I also like it a lot because when it reflects it gives a rainbow color where as diamonds dont have that. Moissanites are also harder than most stones at a Moh's scale of 9.2 (Diamond being 10). So I didn't have to worry too much about Michelle scratching the rock either.

So in the end I'm really pleased with choosing Moissanites and everyone compliments her ring when they see it. I love the reflection and the color it shoots out. I thing I do caution is to say that when I choose moissanites I made it clear to everyone that saw the ring that it was moissanite. i don't want people to think that its a diamond wannabe because its not. Its a unique rock in itself and it deserves its glory too :)

Ah yes, the ring. I have received a few inquiries about why there is absolutely nothing about the ring on the website! well..

SPARKLEYYY! its a driving hazard! i always want to stare at it haha =)

Gary and I both agreed that we did not want a diamond as we do not support the industry. =) so what is this super sparkley gem??

A mossanite! on a platinum band. So what is that exactly? well, Its a meteorite! hehe which is extremely rare and practically impossible to find in nature, so of course its chemical grown in the lab, and modeled after a "falling star" that fell 50 thousand years ago. hehe =) Its chemical composition: SiC (silicone carbide)

It has a radiance dispersion of: 0.104 (which is 2.4 times that of a diamonds) and refractive index of 2.69 approx (10% more brilliant than a diamond) Basically meaning much sparkelier! haha =) And its harder than emeralds, rubys or sapphires.

Gary and Joann had it designed and made from Bluemental Jewlers. They picked out a simliar rign they liked, and took out the things they didn't like and added a few things they did like. Few days later! They were sent this computer generated prototype for my pretty ring!

The a wax mold was made! and then the final product! =) =)

I definitely would encourage future engagies wanting a beautiful sparkley clear stone to look more in to this gem, and the issues surrounding diamonds. I know theres alot of social pressure and commercial brainwash to buy the "girls best friend." (you'll feel it the moment you walk into any chain jewlery store)

First off i just arbitrarily decided on Mens warehouse as our rental since not all the guys were in SD and Mens warehouse allows guys to get measured at any of their stores which makes things easier. The hard part was finding the right colors to match with the girl's peony dresses. the first time we went to MW (with steve and dlui) we literally looked through all of their color swatches and decided that a pink/ red would be a good. We picked out tuxes and ended up going home with a swatch color guide to think about it more.

Dan hom came down couple weeks later and we went to MW to get him sized and to setup our group account. Again we went through literally all the color swatches they had and finally decided on a magenta colored tie and a off white vest. Got our group setup and let the rest of the guys know about the group

MW's ability to setup groups for the guys is really cool.

It just so happened that michelle was not with me both times i was at MW and so she had no idea what the colors looked like. It also happened that MW was opening a MW Tux store front and we saw it at the Orange mall. So i took the opportunity to go show michelle the colors we picked. Now I really recommend MW Tux storefronts over regular MW stores because the people are nice and they actually have full on vest/ ties for you to try on rather than color swatches. With michelle's help we finally picked a great color combination which ended up being a darker pink color tie and a solid white vest which she really liked a lot. So with that we're set with the colors!

Yum Yum Dim Sum Video Blog!

This Saturday we drove over to Pearl to treat our Bridal party to some yummy dim sum so we could visit the reception and the ceremony site! ^_^ This day was mostly filled with videos! hehe so have fun watching =)

here's a fun video we took while we we were at Pearl.

Seems like everyone liked the reception site huh!? hehe the outside is very very pretty! We took a few pictures here and there.

We more or less inhaled all of our dim sum in less than half an hour haha ^^ afterwards we headed over to Starbucks to hang out a bit before our appointment with Gloria (the ceremony site coordinator) at the Rancho Bernardo Inn.

The strangest thing happens! an elderly lady walks in through the door, and stuffs a plate of chow mein under jeanna's nose and tells her to smell it. hahaha She then explained to us that she cooked it and wanted us chinese to approve. hahah!! The best part is on our way out to our cars, Daniel Lui managed to charm them into feeding most of us some of their chow mein! it was actually quite good!

I managed to whip out my handy dandy camera in time to catch Daniels charming skills as they feed him the delicious chow mein

Then off we went with happy stomachs to the Rancho Bernardo Inn! We were still a bit early for our appointment, so we ended up taking a look at one of the rooms we were thinking about renting one of the rooms overlooking the ceremony site the night before so we could get my dress and such all transported there ^_^ Also it might be a nice area for photographers to camp out as well! Then we headed down and checked out the cermony site as well

Over all a very very productive visit! We were able to visit the hospitality room where me and the bridesmaids will be getting ready ^_^ the room was huge! and lovely! Gloria said she would be providing us with tables and chairs and 2 full length mirrors (initially she had said one.. but haha with 6 bridesmaids and 2 mothers i wasn't sure if it would be a good idea hehe) Also! we were able to find possible tea ceremony locations in this garden by the fountain. Pretty huh??

Favor boxes adventure =P

This past weekend weekend me and gary drove up to LA to buy these super cute favor boxes that were supposedly $16 for 100! (super sweet deal right? haha. I thought so too)

So we get to the store, and one of the first things we notice is a bold sign that says "CASH ONLY" and realize.. neither of us had nearly enough cash. Epp! The store manager told us there was a ATM right next door, but being the Asians we were, we didn't want to get charged those extra 3 dollars for using a non-bank ATM. Luck for us! i had my GPS with me, so we put it on "pedestrian mode" and went on adventure to find our respective Bank ATMs. The closest one we found was supposedly in a Building about 2 blocks away from us. But when we got there the security guard told us, yes there is a BOA ATM, but it gets shut down for the weekend. POOP! So we went on our way to the next closest ATM, a wells fargo one. and Oh MAN.. it lead us to the strangest places, we must have walked at least.. 10 blocks around in circles, and still no ATM anywhere in site! hahah. We end up walking around to the other side if the 1st building we were at with the BOA atm, and we peek inside, and see the BOA atm's totally ON and WORKING! LOL. So we walk all the way around back to the entrance (this building is HUMUNGOUS, surrounded by 4 streets, and for some reason you can only get in one way) we don't bother asking the security guard, and just go straight to the ATM. and it was totally on!! We were so happy!! that is untill.. i look in my purse.. and realize.. i didn't have my ATM card. T_T oh man. lol. So Gary ends up sticking in his bank card, and we get charged the extra $3 dollar fee anyways.

When we finally get back to the store. I asked the manager about the $16 for 100 boxes, and she seemed almost horrified haha she said there was no way she had quoted that price, and that it was $16 for 100 ribbons. lol! (peresonalized) So the actual price was about $45 dollars for 100 boxes. haha Needless to say, we did not take out enough money from the ATM to purchase the boxes, and we realized we were totally late for marriage counseling! haha so we scraped the idea and zoomed off (well as fast as we could through LA traffic)

We ended up at marriage counseling about an hour late. haha but it was still okay =) I guess the most amazing thing about this trip was that despite everything going very wrong, me and gary managed to have a lot of fun.

We took a mini video while we were lost in LA but i can't get it to upload right! haha >_< hehe oh well!

Invitation Making party

Believe it or not! this party consisted mainly of groomsmen who did a totally fabulous job! i'm so impressed =) haha

Me and Gary stayed up till 2 am the night before finalizing and printing out the design of the inserts. I have to say I'm an super happy with how they turned out!

Step 1: Cut Cut Cut!
10:00 am Saturday

Daniel Lui arrives 1st! with a delicious box of donuts yum! We all start out on a cutting fest, we printed 4 per sheet and thanks to the very thin green border around each insert.. we all had to cut very slowly and carefully! haha to a point where I think many of our thumbs began to ache! But the guys dared not admit it ^_^

Step 2: Break and Eat!
1:00pm
Gary bought in-and-out lunch for everyone to eat! yum!

Step 3: Cut more!
Here Mike Gary and Howard teamed up to cut/exacto knife out the 18x18 paper into 1 inch strips to create the pseudo ribbon on the outside of the card

Step 4: Pokey flower power time
We started sticking the flowers together with sticky tape, Guys liked to dub each other "flower boy" when passed the job haha. While Joy poked cleverly used the crack our dining table to poke perfect holes into our pseudo ribbon and flowers!

Step 5: Flower boy/Brad man time We starting forming an assembly line and each job was dubbed a fun name: flower boy, brad man, tape man, leaf man, the cutting club lol. We carefully use the Heart brads to attach the flower to the psuedo ribbon, and secure it with a tiny piece of tape in the back, forming what looked like a beautiful bouquet of white flowers on long paper stems haha =)

Step 6: Glue tape it all together
THANK GOODNESS for glue tape, we tried glue stick, and it sucked.

Step 7: Glue down the silver dots
this was by far one of the more tedious task. Extra tricky, because the paper was so delicate. It may look like a ribbon with silver dots, but actually it was originally a piece of scrap book paper that Dan Lui and Mike cut strip by strip with a paper cutter. Luckily Lisa-anne stopped by with a friend just in time to help us with the gluing! ^_^

Step 8: Leaf'in time
We stuck on all the leaves under the flowers, which was a lot of fun. We had one person who would put glue on the leaf, and another who would physically stick the leaf on. haha Steve was the official leaf puncher, believe it or not, I only gave him 2 pieces of green paper. haha and i dunno how he did it, but he somehow got ~400 leaves out of them! We had so many extra leaves in the end, on a whim I stuck one on the back of one of the invitations, liked how it looked, and then we stuck it on all the rest of the invitations haha =D

Step 9: stuff em!
we stuffed the cards! and now they're ready to get addressed and sent out =)

Yes.. I clearly had NO idea what so ever! haha sometimes I wish i did, so I could have had a better reaction than like.. "awwwwwwwww ::puts hand over mouth::: or *tear*" BUT no... the first thing that comes out of my mouth is "WHAT?!?!?" Haha, but yes I was very shocked and surprised and had no idea what was comming. Joann, Dan Daniel and Jeanna were the engagement ninja spy team... you guys totally had me. =) Good job.

February 7th, 2009- Today we took our Engagement photos with Daniel and Jenn! It was so much fun. We went to this super beautiful woody area with super bright green uncut grass. It was the prettiest grass I've ever seen ever!! It started sprinkling a bit, but it made it that much more memorable and fun! We took some fun ones on our scooters, and OF COURSE.. the Biomed library ha-ha-ha I know.. were such nerds! but that's where we spent most of our time getting to know each other =)

I can't wait to see how they turned out, I'm so impatient! haha

Spending lots of money and signing lots of contracts but it has all been fun and interesting. i can't believe i know all about dress styles and cuts, not to say that i'm an expert but i can tell the style of dresses now. it kinda creeps me out but its good :) Will be going out with some guys this week to start looking for tux/suit rentals.

Yes! i found "THE dress" woopie! I'm so happy. This past weekend was so much fun. I went shopping with my mommy, Auntie Susan (gary's mommie), Uncle Henry (gary's daddy) and gary too. We took the dress straight off the mannequin to try on haha. We all knew when I put it on that this was definitely THE ONE. (trumpets in the background)

But you can't see it till the day of the wedding hehehe! But i can tell you its by Maggie Sottero. Theres really love lace detailing and crystal beading all around the dress and the train. (but not overwhelming, just enough so it fits in to the dress really nicely) I also really love the back as well. *sigh* and the train too!

From the start I was totally in love with Maggie Sottero's wedding dresses.. but not so in love with the prices. Bleh! I had intended to rent a wedding dress, since i had no idea what to do with it after the wedding, and I heard it was much more economical. However there was an unexpected turn of events! We found out that if we were to rent this particular dress it would be slightly complicated, because they never cut rental dresses when altering, they said altering the dress shorter to accommodate for my height would look a bit funny due to the sheer organza top layer and they would have to end up sewing it in under the gown, instead of having two nice flowy layers. But if I bought it, they could just chop up the dress, and it would be fine. =) haha

SO.. after some (super) intense bargining and chopping about $400 off the sticker price, buying the dress turned out to be only $250 more than renting it. ("cash" only of course) So we bought it!! I was so happy to have gotten such an awesome deal for a Maggie dress. woot! Go awesome mom bargaining skills! oh.. AND we were able to get a super sweet deal for all the bridesmaid dresses too.

All in all a totally awesome succesful weekend.

Bridesmaid outing!

The most awesome girls ever. We were serious troppers this weekend, I'm so proud to have you guys as my bridesmaids! ^___^

It was a bit of an unsuccessful dress find on Saturday, which left all of us feeling a bit discouraged and totally pooped. But none the less 6 girls + outlet + lots of dress = lots of fun! haha Sunday was a bit more of a success!! Joann, Ihui, and tiff you guys are so totally awesome for making it on such short notice. We ended up in a small boutique called 2000 Dreams in convoy and everyone ended up looking good in this dress!

But I think the trend im noticing, is that every girl looks (really) good in different particular types of cuts, and even if everyone looks good in a dress, there's always one or two girls that look slightly better. So! My hope is to have different dresses made in the same color/material, fit to each girls size and shape. Some fun pictures of some not so successful dresses haha =D

First update ever!

woo me and gary (and our dear wedding planner christine) are totally knee deep in finding a ceremony site =) Its been amazing, and we're so thankful to have awesome friends willing to accompany us to numerous sites!

After visiting over 15 sites including, Hilton la jolla, The Lodge la jolla, Rancho valencia, Maderas, The Inn Rancho Sante Fe, La Jolla Cove, The Dana, Orfila Vineyards, i cant even remember them all haha

I think we narrowed it down to 3 we really like!

1. Rancho Bernardo Inn- North lawn
its a gorgeous secluded little garden area.. both me and gary totally fell in love with this area almost instantly! the only slight issue is were not the only ones who love this haha =) so were still trying to work out a date and time if possible! Howard and Steph were able to come with us! (you can probably see them in the pictures i snapped hehe) Its hard to see all the pink flowers in the bushes and surrounding the area, but its much more evident when you are actually there ^^

2. La Estancia- Courtyard
It was voted number 1 place to have a wedding in san diego ^^ omg super beautiful! We would have picked this site hands down, if it weren't for the $10 valet and parking fees the charge per guest. Its also unfortunately the most expensive site.. and the least responsive of all the places we have contacted =( But out of every place we've been, this was by far the most beautiful. Joy totally approved too!

3. Sheraton La Jolla- Koi Pond
This was a very pretty area as well! one of the first sites i visited and almost just chose it right on the spot! The only slight concern i had was that parts of the area were up on a slight textured inclined hill, which makes the setting up the seats slightly strange, it will most likely end up being alternating rows of 3, 4 and 5 chairs haha =)

a bit of a backtrack..

All last week: met with 4 different coordinators and selected Christine Lustig on friday woo! and are extremely happy with our choice!

1.14-Wednesday lunch: Visited sheraton

1.16-Friday Lunch: Visited the La Jolla Cove suites w/ Ihui and Jeanna

1.17 Morning- 5 different wedding venues! Including Hilton SD and the Dana. Oh actuall scratch that we ended up going to 4!

1.17 Afternoon-Bridal Bazaar: Gary braved the land of no man (except for maybe.. a slight 1% of the population) along with me and natalie! lots of fun, lots of pretty stuff to look at and yummy cakes to taste too! There was also a fashion show.. but unfortunately being short short me i couldn't see that well, and gave up on trying to peek inbetween people haha =D and instead we just took advantage of the fact that venues were not so busy when everyone else is crowded around the show! ^__^ Brandy visited and I was able to talk to a florist about possible pricing and found out one of the most important things to get down are the bridesmaid dresses, because basically everything (decor/flowers etc) will end up matching those dresses. haha i never thought about that before! I guess it makes sense since the brides dress is white.. and that matches everything! ^__^

1.18 More Venues with Christine! We were happy to have Howard and Stephanie accompany us and give their super awesome two cents about each place. Lucky for us, that day we found the rancho barnardo inn, and totally loved it! =) happy day.

1.19 Joy came to visit! and we went to see la Estancia =)
